The first annual prom for Chester's senior citizens turned out to be a stellar event.

The excitement began when Susan and Richard Logothetis of Lycian Lighting delivered and installed a mirror ball with lights, complete with prom king and queen thrones.

Greeting everyone at the door were Robert Valentine, town supervisor; Orlando Perez, councilman; and Walt Popailo, director of the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center, who also provided valet parking for every prom-goer.

Gary and Cindy Smith tore it up on the dance floor to music provided by DJ Patrick with Party Time Productions. Many followed their lead. Town of Chester Police Officer Robert Bird, town employee Sharon Conklin and Supervisor Valentine also showed off their moves.

They were fortified by non-stop hors-d'oeuvres, many provided by Orange-Ulster BOCES's culinary students.

Crowned at 8:30 p.m. were the prom queen, Carmen Verbert, and king, Joe Verbert.

Michele Deshler, Sharon Van Deusen, Conklin Linda, Nicole Griffin, Kristin Palmer, Linda Archacki-Gifford, and Lori Streichert formed the busy coalition that made the first annual Chester senior prom a night to remember.
