Ronald P. Torpey of South Blooming Grove, N.Y., dies at age 82

Ronald P. Torpey of the Village of South Blooming Grove, N.Y., a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was 82.

Son of the late Patrick and Bridget Browne Torpey, he was born July 21, 1936, in the Bronx, N.Y.

Ronald was an engineering supervisor with Johnson & Johnson of Ramsey, N.J., and was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was the chief of fire police in South Blooming Grove, a South Blooming Grove Village Board member, a Boy Scout Master of Troop 316, and an engineering supervisor. He was an amateur radio instructor/examiner, a member of Orange County Amateur Radio Relay League, a member of Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service in the 911 Center, and a private pilot.

Ronald was a wonderful husband, father, and loving grandfather, son, brother, neighbor and friend to many. He was a loyal and dependable man with a strong work ethic. He will be missed dearly.

Ronald married Johanna Inzucchi in 1960 and was blessed with four children. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Johanna Torpey; his daughter, Bridget Torpey and her partner, Brett Wood; sons: Ronald Torpey Jr. and Patrick Torpey; seven grandchildren, Christine and her partner, Michael, Melissa and her husband, Faustino, Jessica and her husband, Brendan, Sarah and her husband, Johnny, Heather, Patrick Jr. and Nicholas; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia Boatman and her husband, Frankie.

Ronald was predeceased by his daughter Julia DeFeo Torpey and his sister Eileen Fagan.

Visitation was held Oct. 5 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe, N.Y. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 6 at St. Anastasia Shrine Church in Harriman, N.Y. Cremation took place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, N.Y.
