The untold story of the broken sewer line at Legoland

To the Editor:

Councilman Ken Newbold admonished the Goshen Town Board for allowing Merlin Entertainments (Legoland) to break the sewer line connecting Arcadia Hills Subdivision with the Village of Goshen. Yes, the contractors broke the sewer line on July 18 while working nearby, but they immediately reported the incident to the Town water and sewer department. In the end, the broken line was repaired and all leaking sewage was contained and vacuumed into a tank truck. No sewage left the worksite!

Now here is the rest of the untold story: The 7000 foot sewer line in question has had several breaks in the past and the Town Board has discussed replacing it at considerable cost to the Arcadia Hills residents. Knowing this, the Town Board negotiated early on with Merlin Entertainment to replace the line free of charge while installing the theme park sewer line, and agreed to do so as a gesture of being a good corporate neighbor. The line has been designed and will be replaced in a three-step schedule at an estimated cost of $700,000 plus $50,000 for design and line inspection during construction. This is $750,000 the residents of Arcadia Hills Subdivision will not have to pay. This is the rest of the story NOT told by Ken Newbold in his bashing of Merlin Entertainments and his fellow Town Board Members.
