Goshen — For years, customers on a mission to buy something that celebrates Goshen, one of the most historic townships in New York, have strolled through the front door of Linda’s Office Supply.
Occasionally, Linda Mabie, the 32-year-owner of the boutique that is an eclectic mix of paper, pens, and unique gifts, has offered items for sale that bears the village name or highlights its historic beginning. Each time, the items fly off her shelves, she said.
Last week, she introduced a new product, one that she conceived and her employee designed, the Goshen mug.
She hopes it will go as fast as other Goshen-centric products that have occupied the store.
“People often come in here and ask ‘Do you have anything with Goshen on it?,'” Mabie said.
So she decided it was time to add to her collection of speciality merchandise.
Mabie asked fine artist Michele Meek of Goshen, one of her salespeople, to design a mug to sell at the boutique.
“I like promoting the skills of my staff,” Mabie said. “I have such faith in her. I want to inspire her.”
This is Meek’s third art project for the Goshen boutique. In 2013, Meek’s storefront window design won a national prize awarded by one of Linda’s vendors.
A horse cut-out by Meek, part of a village promotional campaign, sits outside the quaint shop.
Meek has worked at the shop since 2013 and is among a staff of people straight out of the fictional Shop Around the Corner from the movie "You’ve Got Mail."
Mabie said she also hears a lot: “I know I will always find the perfect gift at Linda’s."
The Goshen was first settled by Europeans in 1712 and the village in 1714. The village incorporated in 1809 and is home to one of the first horse racing track in the country.
Linda’s Office Supply is located at 22 Main St., Goshen.
The Goshen mug is for sale for $19.95.
