— Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education Center has received a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for a project in the Appearance Academy called “Suds for Success.”

The grant will fund renovation of one of the cosmetology classroom’s current salon sinks to updated salon backwash units with pivoting bowls.

“These are ergonomically correct for stylists, and more comfortable for clients," said cosmetology instructor Brenda Moore, who submitted the grant application for her classroom,

"Suds" is an intensive two-year program that allows students to gain daily practical experience working on mannequins and other students, as well as the opportunity to provide services to clients at center. Students attend for two and a half hours each day, either for the morning or afternoon session, during their junior and senior year in high school.

“Our cosmetology program will greatly benefit from this grant, and we wish to thank our friends at Lowe’s for generously supporting this project," said Orande Daring, director of Career and Career and Technical Education.

Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and Technical Education programs give students the opportunity to graduate from high school with technical experience, professional skills, national industry certifications, and college credit in a wide variety of high-demand occupations. The Career and Technical Education Division has programs located on two campuses in Goshen, one on Gibson Road and the other at the Regional Education Center at Arden Hill.
