GOSHEN — Barbara Korycki of Goshen received the 2018 Female Volunteer of the Year Award for the Montrose Campus in appreciation of her faithful service to veterans. She received the award at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System's annual volunteer luncheon held in April. Yvette Rodriguez-Cacho, Program Manager of Voluntary Services at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System, offered the following words about Korycki's service when announcing the award: "She enjoys volunteering and is devoted to assisting veterans. She is very active in ensuring that her group is involved. But, as the only participant that makes her job a challenge! She began her volunteer experience here in 2007 with 519-plus volunteer hours, as a deputy representative on the VAVS committee, and began to coordinate Ward Parties on the Community Living Centers. A few years later, she became the group’s VAVS representative and has been bringing the Pokolenie Dancers here, ever since. Most recently she started a new volunteer assignment in the pharmacy, where she opens boxes and sorts pre-packaging medications. Her pleasing personality encourages those around her. The group she represents is the Ladies Auxiliary of the Polish Legion of American Veterans. She has also been involved in assisting with ceremonies, commemorations, women veterans' events, VA2K Walk, and much, much more. To think she is a one-woman show. We adore her and really appreciate everything she does for the veterans and to represent voluntary service. She is caring, conscientious, compassionate, and amazing human being."
