— Things moved quickly when Jeanne Ryan, who was arrested last summer after 11 horses were found starved to death on her Goshen farm, appeared before Judge Robert H. Freehill in Courtroom 113 on Feb. 23

Freehill, Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher Borek, and Ryan's attorney, Michael Sussman, discussed available dates for Ryan to again appear in court. April 27 was set for the pre-trial conference, and May 7 for jury selection. In criminal cases, jury selection is open to the public.

After her appearance, Ryan ran across the parking lot outside, with the hood of her jacket pulled tightly around her head. She jumped into her car and took off.
