— The Auxiliary of the Goshen Historic Track recently donated $10,000 to their cause.

"The money will be used where needed, for operating expenses at the track or possibly to rebuild the barn and replace the blacksmith shop," said Judy Green, co-chair of the Auxiliary with Eveline White.

A good-sized barn and the blacksmith’s shop were completely destroyed in a fire on Aug. 23, 2017. Fortunately, no horses or people were hurt.

The Auxiliary, which was organized in 1981, donates yearly to the track. The amount is usually a hefty sum of between $8,000 and $10,000, and depends on the success of their fundraisers, said Green.

The track's major fundraiser for 2018, “February Frolic,” offers “dinner for two” gift certificates from local restaurants. Tickets for this “fun fundraiser" just become available at the Historic Track office or from any Auxiliary member. Tickets are $2 each, or three for $5. The drawings — 12 certificates for 12 winners — will be held on Feb. 8.

With tickets reasonably priced, everyone in the area can help to make this fundraiser a success to support the Track, said White.

“I love the Village of Goshen and all the positive things it has," said White. "Certainly the track is the jewel of the village. I want to keep it going.”

“We’re always looking for new members,” said Green, explaining that members meet only a few times a year, and they always combine meetings with a social gathering. “We enjoy our work sessions.”

Along with working on the fundraiser, volunteers also sell souvenirs and tickets for a 50/50 raffle during each race day and Grand Circuit Week in June and early July.

“Just as a community member, I love the Goshen Historic Track. Not another place in Orange County has this gem,” said Green. “There’s a great group of people at the Track — some have a horse background, some don’t, and it’s a mix of old and young. There’s no age limit.”

Green noted that the community enjoys the track, as she does.

“It offers not only a year-round training facility but is used by people who come, relax, eat their lunch, watch the horses," she said. "It’s an exciting part of our community.”

If you are interested in joining the Auxiliary, call the track office at 294-5333.
