Some questions for Senator Schumer on Legoland

To the Editor:

Is there a conflict of interest when Senator Charles Schumer recently requested the federal Army Corps of Engineers to expedite their review and approval of a wetlands permit for Legoland's proposed amusement park project in Goshen?

Has he received campaign contributions from the owners or employees of Merlin Entertainment who would build Legoland? What about the same from Goshen based business, civic, religious, union and construction contractors, along with other individuals who also might benefit from the project?

As a longtime self-proclaimed friend of the environment, why would he not want any federal wetlands environmental review to be done correctly, versus rushing it through the process? Is there a political "quid pro quo" between Schumer and those who might benefit including future political and financial support for Schumer in exchange for "fast tracking" completion of the environmental review process for this project?

Schumer attempting to use his position to influence the Army Corps of Engineers is not kosher in the eyes of those who care about the environment and good government.
