Joseph A. Roach of Chester, N.Y., dies at age 92

Joseph A. Roach, the retired owner of the Chester Meat Market and a lifelong resident of Chester, N.Y., died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Valley View Health Care Facility in Goshen, N.Y. He was 92.

Son of the late William and Margaret Keegan Roach, he was born on Dec. 31, 1924, in Chester.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was the Past Commander Post 1167 Orange Blossom Post, Chester.

He was active in the Chester Volunteer Ambulance Corps; the Walton Engine and Hose Company of the Chester Fire District; St. Columba Roman Catholic Church Parish, where he served as a Parish Trustee; and a member for the Chester Parks and Recreation.

He was the widower of Irene Myruski Roach, who died in 2014.

He is survived by their children, Joseph and his wife, Barbara, of Minoa, N.Y., and David Roach of Chester; grandchildren, Stephen Roach of Minoa, N.Y., and Brendan Roach of Escondido, Calif.; and his great-grandson Ryder Roach.

The family would like to thank the staff of Glenmere Ground at Valley View Health Care for the outstanding care and support given to their father and family.

Visitation was scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 21, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers, 3 Hudson St., Chester. A Funeral Mass will be held offered on Friday, Dec. 22. at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church, 27 High St., Chester. Burial will follow with Military Honors at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Route 94, Chester.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hudson Valley Honor Flight (Honoring America Veterans) Attention Donations, P.O. Box 375, Walden, NY 12586; or the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter, 42 Broadway, Suite 1724, New York, NY 10004.
