— The Chester Academy Class of 2018 will host the annual Alyssa Barberi 5K Butterfly Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The flat, scenic course along the Heritage Trail begins and ends at Chester Academy, 64 Hambletonian Ave., Chester. Proceeds from the run/walk will benefit the Alyssa Barberi Memorial Scholarship fund. It honors a beloved Chester Elementary student and Girl Scout who was only 11 years old when she died, on March 8, 2009. She had a special love for butterflies.

Check-in time is from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at Chester Academy. The run/walk begins at 9 a.m.

Registration is $20 on the day of the race.

Pre- and post-race refreshments will be provided by ShopRite and Bella Luna Restaurant. Free T-shirts will be distributed to the first 100 registrants. There will be raffle prizes, awards by age group (see sidebar), and music by DJ New York.

No rollerblades, bikes, or pets will be allowed.
